Interview with Nikola Nikolovski

Who is Nikola Nikolovski?

I graduated at the Department of Finance at the Faculty of Economics in Prilep, and then continued to Master Studies at the University American College in Skopje. About a year, year and a half, I made a difficult decision and decided to make a career change. I enrolled at the Automation Software Tester Academy at Semos Education and it might be one of the best decisions I have made so far.

Immediately after finishing the Academy, I created a LinkedIn profile and started looking for a job. I applied to several job posts and was surprised by how much the Automation Software Engineer profession is in demand. In less than two weeks, I was contacted by Bit Software, passed the interviews and started working. But the very next year I decided it was time for a change and applied at Allocate Software.

What does a working day of a Test Automation Engineer look like?

The work atmosphere in this company is wonderful, motivating and the working day as an Automation Software Engineer begins with a daily stand-up meeting. At the meeting we discuss what has been done, what needs to be done and how it should be done. Then we analyze the test plan, written by the manual testers, and we look at the requirements about which of those tests should be automated. The most important and most repeated scenarios are selected and codes are written for them. I write the code in Python and use the Selenium tool which is one of the most used automation tools in the world.

How did the Academy help you in what you do today?

Semos Automation Software Tester Academy was an excellent foundation that allowed me to enter the IT world, for which I am especially grateful. The organization and dedication of the whole team, the expertise to convey knowledge and get feedback from each of us, helped me to combine my personal and professional skills with the skills and knowledge needed for Automation Testing. This Academy opened a path for me that I hope I walk successfully, always striving for new knowledge, challenges and opportunities.

The program that was studied at the Academy covers all the modules necessary to start a career in this field. Of course, learning does not stop there. Self-initiative, the desire for success and new knowledge are also very important, but the Academy is the foundation for someone who ventures into the IT world without any IT background.

Finally, what would you recommend to those who want to build a career as a Software Tester?

To all those who want to build a career as an Automation Software Tester, I recommend them to be persistent, and work hard. Every success carries a heavy burden, every beginning is difficult, but in order to have success you have to start from somewhere.
